Ditto

Okay I do realize that I'm kind of spinning off of Carly's Web Wednesdays--okay I am--but I never post it on Wednesdays and these are just fun funny things I want to share with you guys.

I feel like it's my way of saying, here's how I'm procrastinating studying at college--enjoy!

Would you like some grapes?
Jumper or Climber?
Seminary = success?

PS: did you know that you have to be "invited" into the seminary teaching program at BYU? Not applying, inviting; you take a few courses and they look at you and if you're worthy, they "invite" you... does anyone else sense a fraternity/sorority thing here or is it just me?

Wisdom Teeth High Expectations
Some nice additions to the nursery I think. Think about it.
All it takes is one letter to make all the difference
This explains perfectly what we have all felt
and lastly, nostalgia

and something to keep in mind as Carly and Kristin enter the next stage:

sorry... I couldn't resist.

General Conference Trivia

Do you know the apostles in order of seniority? Brother Wilcox gave our Book of Mormon class a way to remember:

First I give you a number and a rhyming word--a nemonic device
1-thumb
2-shoe
3-tree
4-door
5-hive
6-sticks
7-heaven
8-gate
9-spine
10-hen
(when we get to 11 we go back to 1, 21 back to 11 (1), etc.)
11-thumb
12-shoe
13-tree
14-door
15-hive

Story Time:
ONE (thumb)
You stick out your thumb and there's a monsoon just swirling around your thumb, just going crazy
Thomas S. Monson

TWO (shoe)
You are in a shoe factory, working at the conveyer belt, your job is to pack the shoes
Boyd K. Packer

THREE (tree)
You reach out to pick fruit from the tree, what is the fruit? Pears!
L. Tom Perry

FOUR (door)
A father and son are building a door, the father turns to his son and says, "I need more nails, son."
Russel M. Nelson

FIVE (hive)
There is a beehive, it is made out of fine wood, oak wood to be exact.
Dallin H. Oaks

SIX (sticks)
You have a couple of sticks and you're preparing to play a game with your friends. You're up to bat and your friend yells out to you, "Hit the ball hard!"
M. Russel Ballard

SEVEN (heaven)
You have passed away and you find yourself before the pearly gates and you are so taken aback that you exclaim, "Great Scott!"
Richard G. Scott

EIGHT (gate)
You are standing outside your house in front of a gate, nothing will make you move, not even if it rains or hales
Robert D. Hales

NINE (spine)
Your spine hurts because you're wearing wooden shoes, but why are you wearing wooden shoes? Because you're in Holland!
Jeffrey R. Holland

TEN (hen)
There is a hen, a very edgy hen, so edgy that she's wearing multiple earrings!
Henry B. Eyring

ELEVEN (thumb)
You have stuck your thumb back out in the monsoon and has begun swirling around it, again and again, it swirls to quickly and swiftly that is takes you right across the ocean--where you bump into an airplane--but you make it all the way across the Atlantic where it hits a dwarf and the dwarf says, "Uch!"
Dieter F. Uchtdorf

TWELVE (shoe)
You have packed your shoes all day and are extraordinarily tired, so you go to bed (nar)
David A. Bednar

THIRTEEN (tree)
You have picked all the pears from the tree dutifully. After plucking all the pears, you must take them to the cook.
Quentin L. Cook

FOURTEEN (door)
"Give me the nails, son," after giving the nails the father replies, "Thank you Christof, my son."
D. Todd Christofferson

FIFTEEN (hive)
You have your lovely oak hive, that you have built by hand, son
Niel L. Anderson
-this one is probably the most stretched-

I recognize that a lot of them are a stretch, but now you won't forget! And you can wow everyone with your ability to know the apostles in order of seniority {PS. they sit in order of seniority. FUN FACT!}

Enjoy Conference this weekend

Growing pains

Obviously I've got nothing on Carly and Kristen right now, the Freshmen 15 just doesn't quite stretch the same way as when your insides are stuffed with various fruits and vegetables on a weekly basis, but I will do my best to fit that extra burrito with creamery ice cream on the side.
I'm totally joking by the way, I am NOT getting fat up here, I promise!

All joking aside, I wanted to share a little bit with you all, sorry I don't post more pictures!

So last week was incredible! I got to hear from and be in the presence of President Thomas S. Monson, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, Elder Henry B. Eyring, Elder Deter F. Uctdorf, Elder Dallin H. Oaks, Elder Russel M. Nelson, Elder Richard G. Scott, and Elder D. Todd Christopherson. I mean come on! What a spiritually impacted week, at least for me, of complete and wonderful amazingness.

I just wanted to share that because it was kind of the highlight of my week last week, Tuesday and most especially Saturday.

And now, I post pictures--concept!

So me with, get this FRIENDS, at the BYU game last Thursday.
GO COUGS!!

Then me, with get this again in case you missed it above, FRIENDS--cause I have those you know-- hiking to the top of the Y on Saturday.

So this past week was a lot better than week 1, just the whole influx of more people on campus was a real curveball for me, but I'm all settled in and good now. However last week was a huge learning experience for me regarding friend/relationships. They take, wait for it... WORK. Friends don't just appear by your side and you instantly get along, you have to work to have and keep having friends. Then living with someone isn't always peaches and cream, let me tell you--and I know that you all already know that, but I'm just learning this! It takes work, service, kindness, perseverance, and patience. So a big week for me and it's just going to continue. Thank goodness for you guys though, you make everything easier.

Love you all, hugs and kisses from your little sis

Another year gone...

Guys, I'm nineteen!!! What?! I'm like almost two decades old, we're all almost out of the teens altogether, can you believe it?!

This didn't hit me till family dinner at Aunt Wendy and Uncle Bob's a few weeks ago when Uncle Bob and CJ were talking about a house and how unreliable it was, it was nearly twenty years old, built in '94...
and I was like, wait, what?!
And that's when it hit me, I'm nearly twenty. But not yet! I've still got a year to go, don't kick me out of my teens just yet!! ;)

Anyways, being at college and having my birthday with class and all really wasn't all that bad. I basically have the best family and roommate-but we all already knew that-and here's the proof:

So Mom sent me this awesomeness care package-I felt like a missionary!!
Its contents included: 2 bundt cakes, bubbles, silly string, a Happy Birthday music box, a birthday girl button, bow ties, colorful straws, balloons, balloon pump, horns, and a garland

Then my amazing roommate Britney set it all up, unbeknownst to me! I walked into our room after class and discovered it completely decked out with banners, balloons, streamers, "19" paper cutouts on the window, and even a present and card on the windowsill!

Pretty much my roomie, hall, and all of you have sufficiently spoiled me! I received phone calls, texts, baked and bought goods, cards, and balloons all day!!

My take-away: I should go out of town more often on my birthday ;)

Love you all to the moon and back!!! <3

Living in an Extrovert's World

I would like to begin by saying, I love you all, but let's talk.
Don't be scared! I just want to say a thing or two.

So what is introversion exactly? Extroversion?
An extrovert is someone who enjoys socializing with others and has a lower level of naturally occurring arousal, that's why they enjoy the company of others because they need the stimulation to increase their arousal levels.
An introvert is someone who is less likely to enjoy being with others because they have a naturally higher arousal level, and don't like being around others as much because they find it overly stimulating.

Makes sense right? I thought so.
Thank you Psych!

Well, here is an interesting thought that I had never really fully comprehended, is being an introvert and is being shy the same thing?
No.
A shy person is someone who finds people physically, emotionally, and mentally frightening. An introvert is just a person who enjoys works solitarily, they like their privacy.

Now, extroverts are wonderful, I love them! But their way is not the only way; we need extroverts and introverts to function as a well rounded society. So why does our world discourage introverts? Why do we look down at those who don't mind being alone for a while? Why do we think others who enjoy some solitary time are odd? Why?!

I agree that when you get outside of yourself and try new things and make friends you're happier, but there's a place and something to be said for not having that already as a part of you. I'd like to say thank you to you all for pushing me outside of myself, but to remember that if you're not naturally an extrovert, that's okay. You're not sick, you're not weird or nerdy or whatever, you are just you.

I think that I would describe myself as an ambivert, I'm moderately comfortable with groups and social interaction, but I also relish time away from crowds.

I know that our family is all over the spectrum from introvert to extrovert, but I feel like we encourage more extroversion in the home and I wanted to make sure that the benefits of introversion were not forgotten as they should be applauded as well, in my mind.

This TED talk really says it all, so if you have 20 minutes to spare, I highly recommend it!

Okay that was my two cents, please continue with your lives.

Curiosities

I find this very curious, and so incredibly awesome! I wish that it wasn't R, but alas.

I hope you find it as intriguing as I do! If not, sorry.

Cinema is becoming more and more curious everyday! I'm so curious as to see what they'll do next!
This may only be the beginning - does anyone else see Truman Show here?!

Discussion Time!

Okay, remember several years ago when we were having a family road trip to Nevada, it was probably for boating, possibly family, well I just remember sitting in the back listening to Christopher and Brendan talking organic chemistry, I distinctly remember there being a discussion on cancer cells, anyway smart science talk was happening. Well, somewhere along the way Christopher makes a joke and we all laugh, when it dies down I say, "I don't get it!" and then even more laughter followed suite.

Well,  I say, "No More!!" I'm a college girl now and I will get the jokes!
 - Probably not but that's beside the point -
At least I'll have an idea, not just an elementary education to grasp at anymore!

So it is now that I wish to pose these questions to you all:
What is reality?
Have we experienced it?
Does it even exist?

Thank my Psych class for this while you all stew over that for a while.

Here are my thoughts:
  • We have our own individual realities that we experience through our own perceptions, but we are not experiencing one single reality right now, currently.
  • We've experienced small portions of reality spiritually, but have never experienced reality in its entirety.
  • It exists, but not on Earth.

Those are my deep thoughts for the week.

Enjoy :)

This is Water

Reporting from Brigham Young University, your newest cougar, Brooke Leigh Tobler!!
{insert raucous cheers and loud applause}

Well, I've done it y'all, I have flown the nest and begun my individual journey. Its crazy to think, I know it's weird for me, I can't begin to think how weird it must be for the rest of you, that I'm in college! I mean to me BYU and college were always the end goal and what I strove for, but I never fully imagined myself here. College was what the big kids did. I watched all of you go through the stages and the life changes, I was just an innocent bystander who cheered you and supported you here a little and there a little. So now that it's finally my turn, my life has kind of rocked!

So far college life is amazing!
classes - amazing
people - great
BYU - fabulous

I've been here for just under two weeks and already I've spent more time in the library than all my four years at Trabuco combined!
{Albeit I never really used the library, but still!}

Anyways, just know that your lil sis is doing fine, just trying to find her way in a brand new world.

And here is a video from my Study Skills professor that I just really loved:

Love you all, hope life is treating you well,
much much love,
Brooke

My Disney Easter Eggs

Not going to lie, I'm loving being a Senior, there are some definite perks:

  • getting a parking space IN the parking lot
  • little to no homework
  • classes have become more discussions than lectures
  • more freedom
  • ditch days - DISNEY days
I fully admit it: I was at Disneyland on Thursday, not school! And thing is, about half my teachers know and none of them cared!

But I wanted to share some of these less seen views I found, my own "easter eggs", of Disneyland:

Walking through Frontierland - It was only 20% full in both parks - that is not a sight you see everyday!

The Haunted Mansion & Splash Mountain

New Orleans Square

Tarzan's House

"Coming around the river bend..."

Mark Twain Riverboat

Matterhorn Bobsleds

Tomorrow Land - Space Tours

Frontierland - tip of Big Thunder Mountain

Main Street & Tomorrow Land

Class of 2014 Mickey ears!!!

And lastly,
I'm convinced that on less populated days ALL characters come out! We saw:
  • Mary Poppins
  • the Fairy Godmother
  • Flynn Ryder
  • Rapunzel
  • Belle
  • Pluto
  • Donald Duck
  • Goofy (twice!)
  • Daisy Duck
  • Minnie Mouse
  • Mickey Mouse
  • Snow White
  • Russel (UP)
And yay, good day :)

My L.A. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday.
What did do you do?
I went to Conan.

It was pretty fun.

One thing, they hang TV prompters from the ceiling for the studio audience to see what's going on. It's happening right in front of you, but with 7 filming cameras, live band, 1 camera, and the rest of the crew it's a little tricky to see the action.

My biggest take-away: this is Conan O'Brian's JOB. You could just tell when he entered the room that he commanded attention, this is what he does, this is his moneymaker, this is his living.

Lastly, this place
it's amazing. Delish.
(German authentic & exotic "hot dogs". Yay it's good)

This is real

Guys...

I'M GOING TO COLLEGE!!!!

They've ACCEPTED me.
It's official.
I'm growing up.
Real life is beginning to happen,
to me.

YYYYYAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fingers crossed that another BYU letter is on its way!!
